SAPOL Brings Festive Joy to the National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant 2024

As Adelaide lights up for the holiday season, South Australia Police (SAPOL) is all set to lead the 2024 National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant, marking the 92nd celebration of this cherished event. With a vibrant display of SAPOL’s Blue Light fleet, the Mounted Operations Unit, and the Band of South Australia Police, the streets will come alive with festive spirit starting at 9:30 a.m. The pageant will follow a new route, beginning on South Terrace and weaving through iconic streets, including King William Street and North Terrace, before culminating at Rundle Mall’s Beehive Corner. This updated path offers more viewing spots and promises a fresh experience for the thousands who flock to see the pageant each year.

Last year, this free, family-oriented event drew in a record-breaking crowd of 320,000, and police expect similar numbers for 2024. With the bustling crowd, SAPOL emphasizes safety, especially for families with children. Event Commander, Superintendent Scott Denny, has reminded attendees of the valuable “if I’m lost” wristbands available from police officers at the pageant. These wristbands, which only require a contact number, proved invaluable last year when five children were quickly reunited with their families. Superintendent Denny also advises parents to take a photo of their child and dress them in easily identifiable clothing for additional safety.

For the first time, Father Christmas will conclude his journey in Rundle Mall at the Gawler Place canopy, adding a touch of novelty to this year’s festivities. In addition, Superintendent Denny urges attendees to respect the blue honor line along the route, ensuring the safety of both the audience and performers.

Visitors should also plan for the event’s road closures and public transport changes. Many streets around Adelaide will be closed from as early as 5 a.m., with extra buses, trains, and trams scheduled to ease transportation. SAPOL reminds all visitors to avoid bringing valuables and to label their bags with contact details, helping minimize the risk of lost items in the crowd.

The Christmas pageant brings out the holiday spirit in the heart of Adelaide, and SAPOL’s involvement helps make the celebration both magical and safe.
