Saquon Barkley Shines Bright, Eagles Dominate Rams 37-20 in Sunday Night Victory
The Philadelphia Eagles continue to roll in the 2024 NFL season, and one of the biggest stories has been the incredible play of running back Saquon Barkley. On Sunday Night Football, Barkley put on a historic performance, running for an astounding 255 yards and scoring twice in the Eagles' decisive 37-20 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. His performance has propelled him firmly into the MVP conversation, and with more than a month left in the season, he’s on track to set multiple records.
Barkley’s night began with a burst of speed in the third quarter, taking a 70-yard run to the end zone on the first play of the second half. His explosive touchdown was just the beginning, as he followed it up with another long touchdown, this time a 72-yard scamper late in the game to seal the win for Philadelphia. In addition to his 255 rushing yards, Barkley also contributed 47 receiving yards on four catches, totaling 302 yards from scrimmage — a career-high. With this performance, he surpassed his previous career-high in rushing yards for a season, now totaling 1,392 yards, surpassing his 2022 total of 1,312.

The Eagles’ offense dominated throughout, using a powerful running game to control the clock. As a team, Philadelphia ran for more than 300 yards, holding the ball for 33 minutes and 41 seconds. Quarterback Jalen Hurts added 39 rushing yards and connected with A.J. Brown for a 6-yard touchdown. Jake Elliott chipped in with field goals, including two in the first half, which helped the Eagles take a 13-7 lead into halftime. On the Rams’ side, Matthew Stafford threw for two touchdowns, but his team struggled with penalties and missed opportunities, including a costly missed field goal in the third quarter that could have kept them in the game.
While Barkley’s incredible performance was the headline, the Eagles' defense deserves credit for shutting down the Rams’ offense. Philadelphia sacked Stafford five times, keeping constant pressure on the Rams' quarterback. Despite the loss, Los Angeles is still very much alive in the NFC West playoff race, with a 5-6 record and a chance to recover against their division rivals.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 9-2 and extend their lead in the NFC East. If Barkley keeps up this level of play, the Eagles will be a force to be reckoned with as they head toward the postseason, with Barkley’s name now firmly in the MVP discussion. The Rams, on the other hand, will look to bounce back next week in New Orleans.
