For the first time in nearly two decades, the South Park Eagles are celebrating as the WPIAL Class 2A football champions. In a thrilling matchup at Acrisure Stadium, South Park defeated Seton LaSalle 21-14 to secure their third WPIAL title in school history, marking their first since 2005.

The victory capped off a season full of hard work and determination for the Eagles (12-1), who entered the game with the confidence of a well-prepared team ready to take on the challenge. Their opponents, Seton LaSalle (11-1), were making their first appearance in the championship game since 2004, but despite a valiant effort, they couldn’t close the gap in the final moments.

The game got off to a strong start for South Park, who took an early lead with a six-point advantage. Then, quarterback Robert Lindsay made a key play by calling his own number and powering through from the one-yard line to extend the lead to 14-0 after a successful two-point conversion. Seton LaSalle responded with a brilliant reverse play to Leo Taylor, who dashed down the sideline and stayed inbounds to score, cutting South Park's lead to 14-7.

However, South Park quickly regained their momentum. Running back Eric Drew fought his way into the end zone from eight yards out for his second touchdown of the game, bringing the Eagles’ lead to 21-7. The Rebels made one last push with a spectacular 51-yard connection from quarterback Mike Patrick to receiver Richard Littlejohn, but it was as close as they would get.

As the final whistle blew, the South Park Eagles had clinched a 21-14 victory, celebrating their first WPIAL championship in 19 years. The win was an emotional one for the team and their fans. Head coach Robert Lindsay shared his pride, expressing that the job wasn’t finished yet. With the state playoffs on the horizon, Lindsay emphasized that they would continue working hard, even practicing on Thanksgiving to stay sharp for the challenges ahead.
