Three Disappointing Hornets Players in the Early 2024-25 NBA Season

The Charlotte Hornets have had a turbulent start to the 2024-25 NBA season, currently sitting at 4-7 after three weeks of play. Despite a brief two-game winning streak, they've recently stumbled, losing to teams that many would consider winnable opponents. With key players missing and others underperforming, there are a few names that have been particularly disappointing, considering the expectations heading into the season. Let’s take a look at the three Hornets players who have yet to meet those expectations.

First on the list is Mark Williams. It’s tough to be disappointed by someone who hasn’t even played this season, but unfortunately, Williams' absence has been a major letdown. The promising young center, who showed potential last season, has been sidelined with injuries since December. Initially, there was optimism for his return this season, but that optimism took a hit when Williams suffered a foot injury before training camp. He was expected to be a crucial part of the team, but nearly two months after the injury, Williams has not participated in contact drills or seen any game action. The longer this drag continues, the more concerning and disappointing it becomes, especially when the team is in need of reliable players, and Williams was seen as one of the Hornets' brightest future prospects.

Another player who has fallen short is Josh Green, a player many saw as an underrated summer acquisition. Green had been a solid contributor for the Dallas Mavericks last season, but his impact on the Hornets has been far from what was expected. In nine games played, Green is averaging a modest 4.6 points, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 rebounds. For someone known for his defense, he has only one steal in his last four games. His performance has been so underwhelming that it’s hard to ignore the fact that Cody Martin, a teammate, has outperformed him thus far. With injuries to key players like Miles Bridges and Mark Williams, Green was expected to step up, but instead, he has struggled to find his rhythm and make an impact. If his performance doesn’t improve, we might even see a lineup change soon.

Lastly, there's Vasilije Micic. This was supposed to be a big year for the Serbian guard, who impressed during the Olympics and showed flashes of potential with the Hornets last season. Unfortunately, Micic has been unable to live up to the hype. His preseason play was lackluster, and it has only gotten worse during the regular season. With just 2.8 points and 1 assist per game, shooting a dismal 17.4% from the field and 12.5% from three, Micic has been largely ineffective. Once considered the primary backup guard for the team, he now finds himself out of the rotation altogether. His drop from being a key piece to seeing minimal court time has been one of the most disappointing developments for Charlotte this season.

These three players—Mark Williams, Josh Green, and Vasilije Micic—have failed to meet the expectations set for them, leaving the Hornets in a difficult position early in the season. As Charlotte hopes to find consistency and move up in the standings, it’s clear that these players need to turn things around quickly if the team is going to find success in the 2024-25 season.
