UCLA Dominates Idaho State with Powerful Performance, Wins 84-70

UCLA’s basketball team made quick work of Idaho State in an impressive 84-70 victory at Pauley Pavilion on Wednesday night. The Bruins, showcasing a high level of efficiency and scoring depth, were led by standout performances from Sebastian Mack and Tyler Bilodeau. Mack finished with 21 points, making an outstanding 15 of 16 free throws, while Bilodeau added 20 points, making all four of his three-point attempts. Their stellar play was instrumental in UCLA extending their season record to 4-1.

Despite Idaho State’s valiant effort, they were no match for the Bruins’ offensive firepower. Eric Dailey Jr. contributed 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, further strengthening UCLA’s command of the game. While the Bengals did have solid individual performances, notably from Isaiah Griffin and Dylan Darling, who scored 16 and 13 points respectively, they were unable to sustain momentum against the dominant Bruins.

The game had a tight start, with Idaho State initially holding a 12-10 lead after a three-pointer by Griffin at the 13:51 mark of the first half. However, UCLA quickly responded with a 10-0 run, capped by back-to-back threes from Bilodeau and Dailey. This momentum shift was critical, and the Bruins never looked back, building a 39-22 lead by the break. The first half saw UCLA shooting an impressive 57.4 percent from the field, including 64.3 percent from beyond the arc.

In the second half, UCLA’s lead only grew, with Bilodeau going on a personal 8-0 run to push the margin to 61-38 with just over 12 minutes remaining. The Bruins’ relentless offense continued, with a 35-second stretch where both Dylan Andrews and Trent Perry hit three-pointers, increasing UCLA's lead to 28 points. Idaho State did attempt to rally, going on a 15-3 run to cut the deficit to 75-59 with just over four minutes left. However, Bilodeau’s timely jumper quelled the Bengals' surge, ensuring the victory.

The win continues UCLA's dominance over Idaho State, improving to 4-0 in their all-time series. For Idaho State, this defeat marks their fifth straight loss to the Bruins, with their only win over UCLA coming in the memorable 1977 Sweet 16 upset.

UCLA’s shooting was exceptional, finishing the game with a 57.4 percent shooting clip, and the team’s perimeter game was on fire, knocking down 9 of 14 three-point attempts. Idaho State, on the other hand, struggled with their outside shooting, converting just 33.3 percent of their three-point attempts. Despite a solid offensive showing by the Bengals, UCLA's overall depth, shooting, and defense proved too much to overcome.

As the Bruins head into their next matchup, this performance serves as a statement of their strength on both ends of the court. For Idaho State, it will be back to the drawing board, as they continue to seek consistency in their play.
