Warriors Shakeup Their Starting Lineup Against Thunder Without Curry
The Golden State Warriors have been facing challenges in recent games, and with superstar Steph Curry sidelined due to injury, head coach Steve Kerr had to make some strategic adjustments ahead of their matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Going into Wednesday's game, the Warriors were on a two-game losing streak, and with their key player missing, the team needed a shift in their approach to stay competitive.
In a bold move, Kerr rolled out an unexpected starting lineup against the Thunder, a team that has been performing exceptionally well with a 13-4 record. The new starting five featured Brandin Podziemski, Lindy Waters III, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, and Draymond Green. This lineup was intriguing, primarily because this particular combination had never played together before, and it was clear that Kerr was willing to experiment in hopes of finding some success without Curry.

The Warriors’ small-ball approach quickly ran into problems. The Thunder wasted no time capitalizing on the Warriors' unfamiliarity with the new lineup, jumping out to a commanding 39-23 lead by the end of the first quarter. Without Curry on the floor, the Warriors struggled with offensive rhythm, and much of the shot-creating responsibility fell to Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins had a solid first half, scoring 11 points, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Thunder’s relentless offense.
The Thunder’s star guard, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, also proved to be a major challenge for Golden State. He dominated the first half, putting up 19 points on an efficient 8-12 shooting, making it clear that the Warriors were having trouble stopping Oklahoma City’s top scorer. As the game wore on, it became evident that the Warriors' usual defensive structure and offensive flow were significantly impacted by the absence of Curry, their leader.
Despite the difficulties, the Warriors will be hoping that Curry’s injury is short-term, as he is not expected to miss more than Wednesday's game. His presence on the court always makes things easier for Kerr and the entire team. With Curry's leadership and scoring ability, the Warriors' offensive system operates much more fluidly, and the defense can focus on different aspects of the game. Until then, Golden State will need to find ways to adjust, and it will be interesting to see how Kerr continues to tweak his lineup and strategy in the coming games.
