Arsenal secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over AS Monaco in their latest Champions League encounter, a match that saw Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz stand out in the Gunners' emphatic win. The match, played on December 11, 2024, showcased Arsenal’s attacking prowess and solid defensive performance, propelling them into third place in the group stage standings.

The game got off to an intense start, with both teams testing each other’s defenses. Monaco showed early signs of resilience, creating a few opportunities, but Arsenal soon found their rhythm and began to dominate. It was Bukayo Saka who opened the scoring in the 34th minute, taking full advantage of a loose ball in the penalty area. Saka pounced, delivering a clinical strike into the net that gave Arsenal a well-deserved 1-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Monaco tried to fight back, but Arsenal's defense remained strong, with Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba particularly impressive in the backline. Despite some close calls from Monaco, Arsenal extended their lead in the 78th minute. A mistake by Monaco's defense led to another quick counter from the Gunners, and Saka, always in the right place at the right time, scored his second goal of the night from close range.

The match appeared to be heading for a routine finish, but there was one last twist in the tale. Kai Havertz seemed to have scored Arsenal’s third in the 88th minute following a well-executed free-kick routine. However, the goal was later ruled as an own goal after Monaco's Thilo Kehrer inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net, much to Havertz's dismay. Nonetheless, the goal stood, and Arsenal sealed the victory at 3-0.

With the win, Arsenal moves up to third place in their group, positioning themselves for the upcoming fixtures against Dinamo Zagreb and Girona in the new year. The victory also provides a much-needed confidence boost for Mikel Arteta's side, especially with their squad dealing with injuries.

Player of the match Bukayo Saka praised the team's collective effort, particularly highlighting the contributions of young talents like Myles Lewis-Skelly, who played a key role in the buildup to the first goal. As Arsenal head into the Champions League break, the Gunners will look to build on this momentum in the coming months.
