Bryce Cotton Dominates NBL with Historic 4th Consecutive 40-Point Game
Bryce Cotton is truly rewriting the history books in the NBL. The Perth Wildcats star just completed an extraordinary achievement—his fourth consecutive 40-point game, leading his team to a dominant 128-92 win over Cairns. With 44 points and six assists in this game, Cotton now has an eye-popping total of 192 points in his last four outings. This impressive streak has set a new benchmark for the league, proving that Cotton is performing on a level that may be too good for the NBL.
To put his current form into perspective, Cotton has outdone even the greats of the NBL. It’s been decades since anyone has managed to score 40 or more points in four consecutive games. In fact, the last player to achieve this feat was Andrew Gaze back in 1991—long before the current rules and pace of the game. Now, Cotton stands on the brink of becoming a five-time NBL MVP, and it’s no surprise with the kind of performances he’s been delivering.

Taipans coach Adam Forde, who once served as an assistant coach for the Wildcats when Cotton first arrived in the NBL, believes that Cotton's talent transcends this league. Forde commented, “He doesn’t belong in this league, he should be balling out somewhere else in a higher level.” His admiration for Cotton’s abilities is clear, and it's a sentiment that many around the league share. With every game, Cotton continues to demonstrate his exceptional skills, making it increasingly difficult to imagine him staying in the NBL for much longer.
Cotton’s latest performance came after a slow start, as Cairns’ defense did its best to limit his impact. The Taipans were even leading for much of the first half, and Cotton was largely contained in the opening stages. However, his resilience showed once again. As the game wore on and the Wildcats began to find their rhythm, Cotton exploded into action, scoring effortlessly and breaking down Cairns' defense with ease.
What’s even more remarkable about Cotton’s performance in Cairns is the fact that he only made three three-pointers. Instead of relying on his usual long-range shooting, he dominated the paint, scoring efficiently against much bigger defenders. His ability to adjust his game and still score at will makes him virtually unstoppable. As Wildcats coach John Rillie noted, Cotton's trust in his teammates allowed him to thrive, benefiting from the collective effort as the team found their flow.
As Perth marched to victory, Cotton continued to score, sealing his fourth 40-point game with a mid-range jumper, further cementing his status as one of the most dominant players in the league. While the victory itself was impressive, it was Cotton’s individual performance that truly stole the show. The Wildcats are now in a strong position to retain him, but it’s clear that teams from around the world will be watching closely, as Cotton proves time and again that he’s in a class of his own.
