Dani Olmo's Future at Barcelona Hangs in the Balance
The FC Barcelona situation surrounding Dani Olmo has become increasingly tense as the clock ticks down. With only three weeks remaining until the end of the year, the Catalan club faces a crucial deadline to finalize Olmo’s registration for the current season. If they fail, the Spanish international could be sidelined until the next season, which would be a major setback for both the player and the team.
Olmo’s arrival at Barcelona was initially provisional, with the club registering him in late August after an injury to Andreas Christensen. This temporary registration allowed Olmo to join the squad, but it was always clear that the situation would need to be resolved before the year’s end. However, despite the club’s efforts, they still lack the necessary financial flexibility to officially secure Olmo's place in the team, which has left them scrambling for solutions.

Barcelona had hoped that a new sponsorship deal with Nike would provide the funds to register Olmo permanently. While the deal is beneficial, La Liga has indicated that it won’t be enough to cover the registration costs on its own. In response, the club has accelerated their efforts, scheduling an extraordinary assembly for December 21 to get approval from the club’s members. They have also expedited the collection of membership fees, typically due in January but now set for December. Additionally, VIP ticket sales for the future Camp Nou have been pushed forward in hopes of generating more revenue.
However, even with all these moves, Barcelona still finds itself in need of a significant financial boost. President Joan Laporta has been in Qatar attempting to secure investment, while also exploring other options such as leveraging the personal guarantees of club executives. The clock is ticking, and if a miracle investor doesn’t come through, the worst-case scenario is that Olmo will be unable to play until July 2025.
At this point, Barcelona's hope is that a combination of last-minute financial maneuvers will allow them to register Olmo. As the deadline approaches, there's still some optimism within the club, but the situation remains perilous. The stakes are high, and all eyes will be on Barcelona’s ability to solve this financial puzzle before it’s too late.
