Deadly Tiger Snake Found Under Baby's Toy in Melbourne Home – A Shocking Christmas Surprise
Imagine relaxing at home on Christmas night, the house quiet except for the soft sounds of your child’s toys. Suddenly, a deadly surprise lurks beneath your child’s bouncy chair. This was the terrifying reality for one family in Melbourne when a highly venomous tiger snake was discovered hiding under their baby’s bouncer. Fortunately, the snake was removed safely by an expert, and no one was harmed, but the incident left the family in shock.
The snake, an Eastern Tiger Snake, is known to be one of the most venomous in the world, ranking as the fifth deadliest. Despite its relatively small size, its venom can cause severe damage and even death. This makes the discovery particularly alarming, as such snakes are capable of hiding in seemingly innocuous spots in homes, making them a dangerous surprise for unsuspecting residents.

The family’s Christmas evening took an unexpected turn when they noticed the snake slithering through the lounge area and eventually hiding under the bouncer. Mark Pelley, a professional snake catcher known as "The Snake Hunter," responded quickly to the call, arriving just before midnight. Upon lifting the bouncy chair, Pelley discovered the snake curled up underneath, probably unaware of the human presence. He noted that the snake could have been hiding there for much longer, unnoticed by the family, which only added to the shock of the discovery.
The expert safely removed the snake without causing harm to either the reptile or the family members. According to Pelley, tiger snakes are notorious for finding shelter in unusual places, especially in homes with clutter or toys. This is not an isolated case, as recent reports of snake sightings in public spaces have also made headlines. In one case, a snake disrupted proceedings in a courtroom in Mumbai, showing that these reptiles are capable of turning up in the most unexpected of places.
Tiger snakes, while generally avoiding confrontation, have a fierce reputation for defending themselves when threatened. Their venom, a potent mix of neurotoxins and hemotoxins, is incredibly dangerous, but deaths from tiger snake bites are relatively rare in Australia, with only four recorded fatalities in recent years. Still, the potential risk is high, which is why it is always crucial to call experts for safe removal when encountering these reptiles.
While the family in Melbourne was fortunate, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant in areas where snakes are common. Whether it’s during the holidays or any other time of year, the presence of a tiger snake can be a deadly surprise that requires immediate action.
