Eagles Make Key Roster Moves Ahead of Crucial Cowboys Showdown
As the Eagles gear up for a must-win game against the Dallas Cowboys, the team has made several important roster moves that could impact their performance this Sunday. With a 1 PM kickoff at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles are facing off against their NFC East rivals in what promises to be a critical matchup.
One of the key moves was the signing of quarterback Ian Book to the active roster. Book, who was previously with the New Orleans Saints as a fourth-round draft pick in 2021, has spent time with the Eagles since the end of the 2022 preseason. Although he did not see any playing time in his previous stint with the team, his college career was highly productive, and Head Coach Nick Sirianni has expressed optimism about his potential. With Jalen Hurts out due to a concussion, Book will join Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee on the active roster as the Eagles look to secure their playoff positioning.

The Eagles also activated defensive end Bryce Huff from Injured Reserve, adding a much-needed boost to their defensive line. Huff, who has been sidelined after undergoing wrist surgery, had a solid first half of the season, recording 2.5 sacks and several tackles. His return adds to an already formidable defense that leads the league in several categories, including fewest yards allowed per game. The Eagles' defensive front, which includes the likes of Josh Sweat and rookie Nolan Smith, will be crucial in containing Dallas' high-powered offense.
In addition to these key roster moves, the Eagles elevated running back Tyrion Davis-Price and linebacker Dallas Gant from the practice squad. Davis-Price, a former third-round pick of the 49ers, is in line to make his Eagles debut with Will Shipley ruled out due to a concussion. Davis-Price has had a solid preseason and brings a powerful running style to complement the team’s backfield, especially with the absence of Shipley. Meanwhile, Gant, a rookie linebacker, will provide depth at a critical position with Nakobe Dean listed as doubtful due to an abdominal injury. Gant, who was an All-MAC selection in college, is poised to make his NFL debut in a high-stakes game against Dallas.
In a final roster shakeup, the Eagles placed wide receiver Britain Covey on Injured Reserve. Covey, who has been a reliable punt returner for the Eagles, has struggled with a lingering neck injury and has not been able to contribute on game day. While his absence is significant, the team has managed to adjust, with Cooper DeJean stepping up to handle the punt return duties in his place.
As the Eagles look to close out the regular season on a high note, these roster moves reflect their commitment to securing the NFC East title and clinching a strong playoff position. With key players returning from injury and fresh faces ready to step up, the Eagles are poised to take on the Cowboys in what could be one of their most crucial games of the season.
