Georgia Basketball Dominates Notre Dame with Strong Defensive Performance
The Georgia Bulldogs made a powerful statement in their latest basketball game, defeating Notre Dame 69-48 at home on Tuesday night in Stegeman Coliseum. The Bulldogs continue to build on their impressive early season, now holding an 8-1 record. Their only loss came at the hands of No. 5 Marquette in The Bahamas, but since then, they've shown their dominance, securing wins over notable teams like Georgia Tech, St. John's, and now Notre Dame.
One standout player for Georgia was Asa Newell, who had a stellar performance, contributing 11 points in the final 6 minutes of the first half. This explosive outburst helped push Georgia to a commanding 34-22 lead going into halftime. Newell finished the game with 20 points and 11 rebounds, proving to be a key player in the Bulldogs' success. Early in the second half, Georgia extended its lead to 17 points at 41-24, but Notre Dame fought back, going on a 15-2 run to close the gap to just 4 points. However, Dakota Leffew quickly answered the call, hitting a critical 3-pointer to keep Georgia's lead at a manageable 46-39. Leffew was on fire from beyond the arc, sinking 4 of his 9 three-point attempts, finishing the game with 16 points—making him the only Bulldog to knock down multiple 3-pointers.

Silas Demary Jr. also contributed with an impressive 3-pointer at the 8:14 mark, pushing the lead back to double digits. Demary finished with 11 points, 2 assists, and an outstanding 5 steals, which was a career-high for him. Tyrin Lawrence orchestrated the offense, dishing out 7 assists on the night. As a team, Georgia dominated the assist category with a 19-to-5 edge over Notre Dame, and they also won the turnover battle, committing just 5 turnovers compared to Notre Dame's 10.
While Georgia's shooting percentage of 44% from the field wasn’t perfect, it was still better than Notre Dame's 36%. The Bulldogs struggled from beyond the arc, making only 6 of 26 three-point attempts, and they attempted just 9 free throws. However, Notre Dame's shooting woes were even more pronounced, as they made only 4 of their 21 three-point attempts.
This victory is another big step forward for the Georgia basketball program under head coach Mike White. They’ll have some time off before returning to action on December 14 against Grand Canyon in State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The Bulldogs will look to continue their strong form and keep building momentum as the season progresses.
