The film follows a close-knit group of high school friends—played by Orlando Norman, Spence Moore II, Heidi Grace Engerman, and Cassady McClincy Zhang—who are desperate to escape the violence and despair of their city. Their journey is a harrowing exploration of ambition and resilience, set against a subculture that thrives on rebellion and chaos. Esposito takes on the role of a calculating and sadistic mid-level kingpin whose smooth demeanor masks a dangerous edge. Hurst, on the other hand, plays a homeless addict with a mysterious, prophetic insight into the world around him.

The drama draws inspiration from Rancid's 1995 punk rock album of the same name, which resonates deeply with themes of defiance and struggle. Written by Peykoff along with Jason and Jamie Neese ( Umbrella Academy ), the film is currently being shot in Portland, Oregon. It also boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Harold Perrineau ( Lost ) as a father clinging to the hope of his son’s baseball career and Taryn Manning ( Orange Is the New Black ) as a mother who openly regrets motherhood.

This project marks Peykoff’s directorial debut, following his work as an executive producer on Horizon: An American Saga . With an authentic punk aesthetic and a storyline layered with grit and emotion, Out Come the Wolves is shaping up to be a poignant tribute to a unique cultural era. Fans of intense, character-driven narratives should keep this film on their radar—it’s a story of who survives, who escapes, and who gets consumed when the metaphorical wolves close in.
