Houston Dynamo FC Welcomes Veteran Goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer for 2025 Season
Houston Dynamo FC has made a significant addition to their roster, signing veteran goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer to a two-year contract that will keep him with the club through the 2026 MLS season. Maurer, a well-established figure in Major League Soccer, joins the Dynamo after a successful eight-year stint with FC Dallas, bringing a wealth of experience and a competitive spirit to the team. This move bolsters the Dynamo’s goalkeeper depth, as the club looks to build on its promising performance in the 2024 season.
Maurer’s journey in MLS began with a one-week loan to FC Dallas in 2017, which eventually turned into a full-time position. Over the next eight seasons, Maurer made 75 appearances across all competitions, showcasing his reliability and consistency. His standout moments include four regular-season appearances in 2024, where he kept two clean sheets and made several crucial saves, including a season-high seven saves in a match against the Portland Timbers. Maurer’s resilience was also evident in his 2020 playoff debut, where he made seven saves, including a penalty stop, helping Dallas advance to the Western Conference semifinals.

Aside from his on-field contributions, Maurer played a pivotal role behind the scenes in 2024 as a Player Development Executive for FC Dallas. This unique role allowed him to gain experience in coaching, scouting, and front-office duties, bridging his playing career with an eye toward the future of the sport. His leadership and ability to inspire those around him are qualities that Houston Dynamo FC values highly.
Pat Onstad, the Dynamo's General Manager, expressed enthusiasm about the signing, stating, “Jimmy brings valuable experience, along with a hunger to succeed that can inspire and elevate the entire group. He’s a proven goalkeeper who has established himself in the league, and we’re excited to have him on board going into the 2025 season.”
Maurer’s presence also adds depth to the Dynamo’s goalkeeping corps, which already includes Andrew Tarbell. The team had previously declined the option for Steve Clark, the Dynamo’s starting goalkeeper for the past three seasons. Maurer’s arrival signals a new chapter for the club, one that combines experience with the ambition to reach new heights in the MLS.
In addition to his MLS career, Maurer’s earlier years in soccer include a successful run with the New York Cosmos in the North American Soccer League, where he earned NASL Best XI honors and helped the club win multiple championships. His solid performances at both the club and collegiate levels make him a well-rounded and seasoned player ready to contribute to the Dynamo’s success. The team is eager to welcome Maurer and his family to Houston, as they look to build on their impressive 2024 season and make an even bigger impact in the years ahead.
