Jackson Arnold Joins Auburn Tigers in a Big Transfer Portal Move
In a notable move from the NCAA transfer portal, former Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold has committed to Auburn University. This announcement signals a fresh chapter for Arnold as he joins head coach Hugh Freeze and the Tigers in their quest to revamp their offense. Auburn fans have reason to be excited about what this talented dual-threat quarterback can bring to the table.
Arnold's decision to transfer comes after a mixed 2024 season with the Oklahoma Sooners. Despite entering the year as Oklahoma's starting quarterback, his journey was marked by highs and lows. In seven games, Arnold passed for 1,421 yards, completing 62.6% of his throws with 12 touchdowns against three interceptions. On the ground, he showcased his mobility, rushing for 444 yards and three scores. However, an uneven start, including a three-and-a-half-game stretch where he managed seven touchdowns but also threw three interceptions, led to him being benched. From that point, he shared playing time with freshman Michael Hawkins.

Auburn quickly emerged as a strong contender for Arnold when he entered the transfer portal on December 4. Within days, Arnold visited the campus, and before his visit concluded, he signed with the Tigers, officially closing the door on other suitors, including Mississippi State and Georgia.
For Auburn, this move represents a potential turning point at quarterback. The Tigers struggled offensively in recent years, with Payton Thorne at the helm in 2024. While Thorne recorded 2,713 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, the team often fell short of expectations. Arnold’s arrival gives the Tigers a dynamic option with experience running an RPO-style offense, aligning well with Freeze’s vision for Auburn’s offensive future.
The Tigers now have three scholarship quarterbacks heading into the 2025 season—Arnold, redshirt freshman Walker White, and incoming true freshman Deuce Knight. Whether Arnold can fully capitalize on this fresh start remains to be seen, but his skill set and determination make him a compelling addition. Auburn fans are hopeful that Arnold will leave behind the struggles of his time at Oklahoma and become a key player in leading the Tigers to new heights.
