Kevin Schade's Last-Minute Goal Seals Thrilling 4-2 Victory for Brentford Over Newcastle
Brentford delivered an exciting and dramatic 4-2 victory over Newcastle at the Gtech Community Stadium, a result that extended their impressive unbeaten home run in the Premier League to eight matches. The match, which was played under stormy conditions, saw Brentford claim all three points in a six-goal thriller, and in doing so, they finally broke the curse that Newcastle had held over them. Newcastle were the last team to win in Brentford's stadium, a victory they secured on the final day of the previous season, but this time it was the hosts who triumphed.
From the opening minutes, it was clear that this was going to be an intense and fast-paced encounter. Brentford took the lead in the 8th minute when Christian Nørgaard’s precise pass found Bryan Mbeumo, who controlled the ball beautifully and then slotted it past Newcastle’s goalkeeper, Nick Pope, into the top corner. But Newcastle quickly responded, with Alexander Isak scoring the equalizer just three minutes later after a defensive lapse by Brentford.

The game continued at a breakneck pace, with both sides showing moments of brilliance but also vulnerability. Brentford regained the lead in the 28th minute, thanks to Yoane Wissa, who seized on a loose pass from Harvey Barnes and curled the ball past Pope into the net. However, Newcastle were quick to respond once again, as Barnes redeemed himself by scoring in the 32nd minute, leveling the score at 2-2.
After the break, Brentford once again took control when Nathan Collins scored a composed goal in the 56th minute, following a clever long ball forward from goalkeeper Mark Flekken. This time, Brentford managed to hold their lead and, in the dying minutes of the game, secured the win through a brilliant solo effort from substitute Kevin Schade. Mbeumo’s pass to Schade allowed the forward to race clear of the defense and calmly finish past Pope, making it 4-2 and sealing all three points for the Bees.
This victory was Brentford’s fourth consecutive home win, and it pushed them up to 6th place in the Premier League standings. The result was especially significant as it allowed Brentford to maintain their unbeaten record at home this season. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s struggles continued, with this defeat marking their fourth match without a win. Despite coming off a spirited draw against Liverpool earlier in the week, Eddie Howe’s side now find themselves in a disappointing 12th place.
Brentford’s attacking play was the highlight of the match, with Mbeumo and Wissa both putting in stellar performances, and the win cements their status as one of the league’s most exciting sides at home this season. For Newcastle, it was another missed opportunity to build on their recent form, and they will need to regroup quickly as they look to turn their fortunes around.
