Knicks Dominate Magic in Physical Showdown for Sixth Straight Win

The New York Knicks showcased their resilience and firepower in a gritty 108-85 victory over the Orlando Magic on December 27, 2024. In a game filled with whistles, fouls, and disruptions, the Knicks relied on their depth and talent to secure their sixth consecutive win, cementing their place as one of the Eastern Conference's top contenders.

Despite the Magic’s best efforts, playing shorthanded without stars Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Mo Wagner, they couldn’t sustain their momentum beyond the first half. Orlando guard Jalen Suggs poured in 27 points and provided an early spark, helping the Magic keep the game tied at 54 by halftime. However, a relentless Knicks squad pulled away in the second half, driven by standout performances from Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart.

Brunson orchestrated the offense masterfully, finishing with 26 points and nine assists, while Hart delivered his best performance of the season. Hart's 23 points and 13 rebounds underscored his tenacity in a physical game where he thrived amidst the chaos. The Knicks capitalized on 23 fouls committed by the Magic, taking an impressive 34 free throws — far above their season average. Hart alone accounted for 10 of those trips to the line.

Even with a modest shooting night from beyond the arc, where the Knicks hit only four of their 15 three-point attempts, their consistency on defense and ability to control the boards made the difference. Orlando struggled offensively beyond Suggs, especially as he battled foul trouble that limited him to 26 minutes. The lack of reliable scoring options ultimately doomed the Magic.

Knicks fans made their presence felt in Orlando, transforming the Kia Center into a de facto “MSG South” with thunderous chants of “Let’s Go Knicks” as the team surged ahead in the second half. This marked the third victory for the Knicks over the Magic this month, further establishing their dominance in the season series.

Despite a quieter night for Karl-Anthony Towns, who managed 16 points and eight rebounds while navigating foul trouble, the Knicks received meaningful contributions from across the roster. Notably, Landry Shamet, returning from a preseason shoulder injury, added seven points and a steal in limited minutes. Coach Tom Thibodeau expanded the rotation to nine players, showcasing the depth and versatility that have been key to New York’s success.

The win pushes the Knicks to a 21-10 record, continuing their red-hot streak of 16 victories in the past 20 games. With health on their side and strong performances across the board, the Knicks look poised to remain a force in the league as the season progresses.
