Northampton Actor Shines in Christmas Comedy 'Bad Tidings' with Lee Mack and Chris McCausland
The festive season just got a lot funnier with the release of Bad Tidings , a Christmas comedy that features a star-studded cast, including Northampton’s own Josiah Eloi. The Sky film, co-written by Strictly Come Dancing winner Chris McCausland, combines holiday cheer with the mischief of criminals, all set in Stockport on Christmas Eve. In a hilarious twist, McCausland and comedian Lee Mack portray two middle-aged blokes trying to foil an attempted robbery while facing their own set of chaotic circumstances. It’s the kind of caper that’s perfect for families who want a mix of laughs and Christmas spirit.

Josiah Eloi, who plays the character of Little Barry Brennan, a member of a crime family, shared his excitement about the role, describing the film as a blend of the iconic Home Alone spirit, but with “two middle-aged blokes wreaking havoc.” Set in the streets of Stockport, Bad Tidings delivers exactly what audiences hope for—a fun-filled romp with a lot of laughter and a bit of mayhem. Josiah, known for his previous role as one of Alan Carr’s neighbors in Changing Ends , praised the experience of working alongside Lee Mack and Chris McCausland.
Filming for the comedy took place over the course of three to four weeks, primarily during late-night shoots. Eloi fondly recalls those long hours spent filming, particularly the late-night conversations with his co-stars. “At 04:00, I was sat next to Lee Mack and Chris McCausland drinking Diet Coke and talking loads of rubbish,” he laughed, highlighting the camaraderie between the cast. Despite the exhaustion from shooting at night, Eloi believes the film has turned out wonderfully.
In addition to his festive film role, Eloi is also keeping busy with another holiday performance—starring in a Cinderella pantomime in Swindon. He shared that this Christmas season has been especially busy but rewarding. With all the excitement, Eloi planned to carve out a brief window to visit his mother in Northampton on Christmas Day. "I'll be in Northampton for about 12 hours," he said, adding that it’s the perfect way to recharge during this festive period.
Bad Tidings promises to be a delightful holiday watch, filled with laughs, action, and plenty of Christmas cheer. Whether you’re a fan of slapstick comedy or looking for something lighthearted to watch with family, this film is a great way to kick off the holiday celebrations. The film is available for streaming on Sky and Now TV starting Sunday.
