Remembering Jamie Cavey-Lang: A Legacy of Dedication and Impact

Today, we take a moment to honor and reflect on the incredible life of Jamie Cavey-Lang, a former University of Iowa women’s basketball player, respected radio analyst, and advocate for student-athletes, who passed away at the age of 41 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her untimely departure leaves a significant void in the Hawkeye community and beyond.

Jamie Cavey-Lang's journey as an athlete and professional was nothing short of remarkable. A standout player for the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2001 to 2005, Jamie’s contributions on the court were extraordinary. She accumulated 1,265 career points, ranking 27th in program history, and secured 506 rebounds. Her talent, dedication, and tenacity earned her accolades such as three Academic All-Big Ten honors and two All-Big Ten selections. These achievements highlighted not only her athletic prowess but also her commitment to academic excellence.

After her playing career, Jamie continued to leave her mark on Iowa athletics by joining the radio broadcast team as a color analyst in 2016. For over six years, her voice and insights brought the Hawkeyes' journey to life for fans, offering both expertise and heartfelt commentary. Although she stepped away from the role following the 2022-23 season, her presence in the broadcast booth is fondly remembered.

Beyond sports, Jamie was a passionate advocate for education and student-athletes. With a master’s degree in higher education from the University of Iowa, she served as a career advisor at the university and was a member of the Presidential Committee on Athletes, championing the needs and goals of students both on and off the field.

Jamie leaves behind her husband, Mike, and their three children, Vincent, Bennett, and Sydney. Her legacy as a loving wife, mother, and a beacon of inspiration to all who knew her will endure.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on December 26 at The Celebration Farm in Iowa City, with a Funeral Mass scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on December 27 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Solon. Jamie Cavey-Lang’s memory will live on in the hearts of the Hawkeye family and everyone whose lives she touched.
