Rep. Nancy Mace, a Republican from South Carolina, was accosted on Capitol grounds, an incident that has made headlines and added fuel to ongoing political debates. "I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women," she wrote. "Capitol police have arrested him. All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe. Your threats will not stop my fight for women!"
The confrontation took place in the Rayburn Office Building around 6 p.m. on December 10, 2024. Capitol Police responded promptly, with officers from the Threat Assessment Section locating and arresting the suspect. The individual has been charged with assaulting a government official, though specific details about the assailant's identity or motives have not been fully disclosed. Mace later shared that she was nursing an injured wrist, with a brace and ice to help manage the pain. Despite the physical toll, she reiterated her commitment to fighting for women’s rights, emphasizing that the threat of violence will not deter her.
