San Pedro de Macorís Unveils Stunning Boardwalk Transformation
San Pedro de Macorís in the Dominican Republic has become the talk of the nation, celebrating the grand reopening of its beautifully remodeled boardwalk. Over the weekend, residents and visitors gathered to witness this transformative project officially inaugurated by President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado. The festive evening, marked by artistic performances and a jubilant atmosphere, highlighted the importance of this long-awaited community development.
The revitalized boardwalk stretches 1.84 kilometers along the scenic coastal shoreline and represents an investment exceeding RD$290 million. This ambitious project, executed by the Executive Committee of Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR), introduces a linear park encompassing 60,000 square meters, of which 12,000 square meters are modern sidewalks. Among its key features are two expansive recreational zones, a business area with nine double sales modules, a plaza adorned with folkloric “Guloyas” figures recognized by UNESCO, and an array of facilities including restrooms, security booths, and even a photo spot.

For the locals, this project is more than just an urban improvement; it’s a milestone in the cultural and economic revival of their community. The new amenities, such as the children’s playground, outdoor gym, and landscaped spaces, promise to create an inclusive and vibrant environment. Enhanced lighting and universal access ramps further underline the boardwalk’s appeal as a safe and welcoming space for all.
President Abinader emphasized the project’s role in fulfilling a long-standing demand from the people of San Pedro de Macorís, while Minister Collado described it as a pivotal step toward transforming the city’s image and tourism potential. Together, they highlighted how the boardwalk is set to enhance the quality of life for residents while serving as a beacon for economic and cultural activities.
This grand reopening is part of a broader investment in San Pedro de Macorís, with over RD$477 million allocated to various development projects since 2021. From street reconstructions to vendor plazas, the government’s commitment to the area reflects a vision for sustainable growth and community enrichment. The revamped boardwalk stands as a shining example of this vision, blending urban functionality with cultural pride and offering a brighter future for San Pedro de Macorís.
