The jolly old elf quickly found himself fielding an endless stream of questions from eager children, each inquiry brimming with curiosity and holiday spirit.

The festive atmosphere was electric as Santa stepped off the fire truck, saving his reindeer for their big night. Almost immediately, he became the center of attention, surrounded by children armed with questions ranging from logistical to whimsical. “How do you manage all those cookies?” one child asked. Other questions delved into the mysteries of Santa’s magical logistics. “What about chimneys with fires?” a child wondered. Santa reassured them, explaining that he pauses the flames momentarily. “What if there’s no chimney?” another asked, to which Santa quipped, “Sometimes, the door is just left ajar.”

The crowd, including participants from Hemingway STEAM School’s Far+Wise afterschool program, marveled at the sight of two real reindeer brought in by One Room Reindeer. Kids sipped hot cocoa and nibbled frosted sugar cookies while watching the reindeer munch on grain, a charming juxtaposition of holiday cheer and rustic simplicity.

Santa didn’t miss a beat when asked about Rudolph’s famous nose, playfully declaring it a mystery, even to him. He also praised Mrs. Claus, crediting her meticulous organization for the success of Christmas. Meanwhile, Ketchum’s holiday tree sparkled with unique ornaments bearing the message: “Small Town. Big Life.”

As the evening wrapped up, Mayor Neil Bradshaw gave Santa the nod to return to the North Pole for final preparations. Santa left with his characteristic twinkle, leaving children with unforgettable memories and a sense of wonder that defines the season.

This enchanting evening in Ketchum was a reminder of the magic that comes alive when a community gathers to celebrate joy, curiosity, and togetherness.
