Stowaway Caught Again After Attempting to Flee to Canada
A 57-year-old woman, Svetlana Dali, recently made headlines for her audacious attempts to flee from the United States to Canada after already facing serious charges for sneaking onto a flight from New York to Paris without a ticket. This came after she cut off an ankle monitor that had been imposed on her following her earlier offense. Dali, a Russian national and U.S. permanent resident, was first arrested after boarding a Delta Airlines flight at JFK Airport in New York without any boarding pass. She somehow managed to bypass security and was able to slip through TSA checkpoints by sneaking into a special lane for airline employees.

Dali's actions were not only highly unusual but also posed a serious breach in airport security. She blended in with a large Air Europe flight crew and went unnoticed by security officers. After boarding the flight to Paris, her suspicious behavior—like moving between bathrooms without taking a seat—caught the attention of the flight crew, who later realized she had no ticket. Upon landing in Paris, Dali was arrested by authorities.
Despite her arrest, Dali was reportedly seeking asylum in France but was unsuccessful. She was eventually flown back to New York, where she was charged with obtaining unauthorized transportation. A New York court had mandated that she wear an ankle monitor while awaiting trial, restricting her movements to Philadelphia unless she was attending court meetings in New York. However, in another shocking turn of events, Dali tried to escape by bus to Canada, hoping to evade justice once more. She was apprehended in Buffalo, New York, and will appear in court soon for her latest offense.
This bizarre series of events has drawn widespread attention, especially as it underscores the vulnerability of airport security, with over 18 million passengers screened by TSA during one of the busiest travel periods. The case also raises concerns about how someone was able to bypass the tight security measures and travel internationally without detection. With Dali now facing additional charges, the investigation continues into how she was able to orchestrate such an elaborate escape attempt.
