Tesco Recalls Chicken Skewers Due to Safety Concerns – Customers Warned 'Do Not Eat'
Tesco has issued an urgent recall for its Chicken Tsukune Skewers , advising customers to avoid consuming the product due to a labeling error. The supermarket chain discovered that the affected packs were incorrectly stamped with a use-by date of December 23, 2024, instead of the correct date, December 10, 2024. This discrepancy poses a potential health risk, as consuming food past its actual use-by date can lead to serious illness.

The product in question is an eight-pack of Japanese-inspired chicken skewers, weighing 280 grams, and featuring a blend of chicken meatballs, spring onion, ginger puree, rice wine, and soy sauce. A staple in Tesco’s festive party food range, these skewers may have found their way into many shoppers’ fridges as they prepare for seasonal gatherings. Tesco urges anyone who purchased the skewers to check their packaging immediately. If the batch is affected, customers should not eat the product and are encouraged to return it to any Tesco store for a full refund—no receipt required.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has emphasized the importance of adhering to use-by dates, explaining that these dates are set for food safety rather than quality. Consuming food after its use-by date, even if it appears and smells fine, could result in harmful bacteria causing foodborne illnesses.
