The Grinch Who Stole Christmas from Drug Dealers in Peru
This holiday season, the Grinch made an unexpected appearance in Peru, but not in the way we all know. Instead of trying to ruin Christmas, this Grinch helped the Peruvian National Police take down a drug trafficking ring in Lima. In a scene that could easily be mistaken for a holiday prank, a police officer disguised as the notorious green Grinch from Dr. Seuss’s story led a daring raid on a family involved in alleged drug dealing.
The Grinch, wearing a Santa-style jacket and carrying a sledgehammer, stormed through the streets of San Bartolo, a neighborhood in southern Lima. Footage released by the national police shows the officer dressed in the Grinch costume, heading toward a building with the hammer slung over his shoulder. His target was a notorious drug trafficking gang, reportedly named "La Mafia de San Bartolo." As the officer smashes open the door with his sledgehammer, the action quickly turns into a high-stakes police operation.

Inside, law enforcement arrested three suspects, two of whom were women, while uncovering a stash of drugs and other illegal items. The Grinch, as the officers later shared in their reports, was part of a larger police strategy where agents use unusual costumes to carry out operations during the holiday season. This festive approach, including dressing up as various characters, such as Freddy Krueger or superheroes, is meant to blend in and surprise criminals while making their operations more effective.
In the video footage, the Grinch can be seen escorting the arrested suspects into a police car, with a police officer mentioning that the team had captured "three drug dealers" thanks to a clever disguise. The seized items, including what appeared to be cash and narcotics, were displayed as part of the operation’s success. While the identities of those arrested remain undisclosed, the results are a clear victory for the Peruvian police.
The Grinch’s role in this operation isn't just for the theatrics. Peru is the second-largest producer of cocaine in the world, and drug trafficking is a persistent issue. The police’s use of such innovative tactics aims to both disrupt the operations of criminal organizations and maintain public safety during festive periods. With this creative and impactful bust, the Grinch not only stole Christmas but also helped keep dangerous criminals in check.
So, while the Grinch may be a villain in the classic Christmas tale, in Peru, he played the role of a hero by taking down a criminal ring just in time for the holidays.
