The Surreal World of Used Cybertruck Prices
Have you ever tried to make sense of the used Tesla Cybertruck market? It’s a rollercoaster of contradictions and baffling decisions, and even after multiple conversations with dealers, it still doesn’t quite add up. Here’s what’s happening in the world of pre-owned Cybertrucks, and it’s as wild as you’d imagine.
Tesla’s futuristic Cybertruck first hit the roads with its Foundation Series at a hefty $100,000 price tag. Early adopters cashed in big by flipping these rare gems for eye-popping amounts, some fetching up to $200,000 in the early months of this year. But times have changed. With Tesla now offering new AWD Cybertrucks for $79,990, you’d expect the used market to follow suit. Instead, it’s gone rogue.

As of now, the average price for a used Cybertruck is around $103,000—well above Tesla’s new price. One dealer I spoke to offered a Foundation Series Cybertruck with 8,000 miles for just under $92,000. That’s lower than its original sticker price but still more expensive than a brand-new AWD model with Full Self-Driving (FSD). The logic? Perhaps the Foundation badge or home backup capability is worth the premium—but it’s a tough sell.
Another dealer took it further, asking $114,000 for a low-mileage AWD model. When questioned, they chalked it up to “market value.” Another had a similar offering for $100,000. In both cases, these trucks are almost new but still priced significantly higher than Tesla’s current listings.
The most absurd pitch came from a dealer who justified their $104,000 price tag by emphasizing immediate availability. Why wait for Tesla’s December delivery, they argued, when you can pay a premium to drive one off the lot today?
It’s clear that the used Cybertruck market operates in its own alternate reality. Dealers cling to inflated prices as long as buyers are willing to pay, despite the readily available, more affordable new options. This surreal dynamic shows just how unpredictable the EV market can be—and why buying a used Cybertruck requires a leap of faith, not just a big wallet.
