Tyson Fury Blasts Judges After Controversial Loss to Oleksandr Usyk
Tyson Fury’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh ended in disappointment for the British heavyweight as the judges awarded Usyk a unanimous victory. All three judges scored the fight 116-112 in Usyk's favor, which marked Fury’s second consecutive defeat at the hands of the Ukrainian champion. However, Fury refused to accept the decision, angrily insisting that the judges had given Usyk a "Christmas gift." According to Fury, he had done enough to win the fight and believed he was the true victor.
Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, echoed these sentiments, expressing his disbelief at the scorecards. "I’m dumbfounded," said Warren. "One judge didn’t give Fury a single round after round six. How can that be?" Fury himself added, "I feel like I won both fights." Despite not having scored a knockout, Fury was confident in his performance, particularly pointing to his jabs and evasive footwork. His frustration was evident as he walked out of the ring without taking questions from reporters, later remarking that he’d always feel "a little bit hard done by," referring to the controversial decision.

The bout itself was a tactical back-and-forth affair, with Fury starting strong but slowly being worn down by Usyk’s relentless body work and nimble footwork. Usyk, known for his technical prowess, continued to outland Fury in the middle rounds, landing precise shots and avoiding much of the Brit’s attacks. Despite this, Fury insisted he had the upper hand, with many fans and even his team believing that he had done enough to earn the victory. According to Warren, Fury’s jab and evasiveness were enough to secure more rounds than the judges gave him credit for.
As the fight progressed, it became clear that Usyk’s superior conditioning and ability to maintain a high work rate were starting to take a toll on Fury. The heavyweight champion from Ukraine never seemed to slow down, while Fury began to show signs of fatigue, particularly in the later rounds. Some analysts even suggested that Fury’s heavier weight may have hindered his stamina, allowing Usyk to impose his pace and continue landing punches at will.
In the end, Usyk’s victory not only strengthened his claim as one of the best heavyweights of his generation but also left Fury grappling with his second loss to the former undisputed cruiserweight champion. While the result was unanimous, the scoring sparked significant controversy, with fans and analysts divided on who truly deserved to win the fight. Despite the setback, Fury remained adamant that he would continue his career, though the outcome of this fight will surely leave lingering questions about the future of his boxing journey.
