Vancouver Braces for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour with Major Traffic Changes
The much-anticipated finale of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has taken over Vancouver, drawing thousands of fans to BC Place for three spectacular shows from December 6 to 8. While excitement is at an all-time high, the city is preparing for significant traffic disruptions and increased transit activity, as Swifties from all over converge for the grand event. Here’s what you need to know if you’re traveling in the downtown area this weekend.
Traffic around BC Place, Rogers Arena, and Concord Pacific Place will be heavily impacted, with several key roads closed from noon to midnight each day of the concerts. Expect closures on Beatty Street between Smithe and West Georgia, Robson Street between Cambie and Beatty, and Pacific Boulevard near the Cambie Bridge. To streamline drop-offs, designated zones have been established on Cambie and Hamilton Streets, as well as parts of Pacific Boulevard. Drivers can stop in these areas for a maximum of three minutes, though heavy congestion is likely.

To ease the influx of concertgoers, TransLink has ramped up public transit services, including extended hours for buses, SkyTrains, and SeaBuses. The last SkyTrain departures from Waterfront Station will run just past 1:15 a.m., while SeaBuses will operate every 10 minutes from 3 p.m. until early morning. Additionally, special Swift shuttle buses will transport fans directly from BC Place to Waterfront Station post-concert. For those commuting from farther out, the West Coast Express has added a special service on Saturday night, and BC Ferries has scheduled extra sailings to accommodate increased demand.
Vancouver residents should also note that this weekend is packed with overlapping events, including Vancouver Canucks games at Rogers Arena and Cirque du Soleil performances nearby. With the Canucks’ home games on Friday and Sunday coinciding with Taylor Swift’s concerts, the area around BC Place is expected to become a hive of activity. Meanwhile, ongoing construction projects, such as lane reductions on the Cambie Street Bridge, will further complicate navigation.
For Swifties and others attending the weekend’s events, a bit of planning can go a long way. Consider using public transit whenever possible to avoid the hassle of parking, as spaces will be scarce and likely expensive. If you’re driving, give yourself ample time to navigate detours and find parking. Fans should also brace for rainy weather—umbrellas and patience will both be essential.
Whether you're a Swiftie, a Canucks fan, or simply someone moving through downtown Vancouver this weekend, prepare for a bustling city and a lively atmosphere. Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour promises to leave an unforgettable mark on Vancouver, and while the logistics may be tricky, the shared excitement is well worth the effort.
