Vancouver Stabbing Incident Ends with Police Shooting Suspect
In a chaotic and tragic series of events in downtown Vancouver, a man suspected of a stabbing spree was fatally shot by police inside a convenience store. The incident unfolded on December 4, 2024, starting with reports of a theft and escalating to a confrontation with law enforcement.
Witnesses described a tense and alarming scene. It began when the suspect allegedly stole liquor and a knife from a nearby restaurant before entering a 7-Eleven store across the street. Kylie Noel, a worker at the Original Joe’s restaurant, recounted the harrowing moments leading up to the attack. She described how the suspect menacingly brandished a knife and threatened staff before moving toward the convenience store. Despite her co-worker's quick thinking to call the police, the situation quickly deteriorated.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) responded swiftly. According to police, two individuals suffered injuries during the incident—one with a stab wound to the hand and another with facial injuries. Fortunately, neither injury was life-threatening. However, the suspect’s actions continued to escalate inside the convenience store, prompting a deadly confrontation.
Graphic video footage captured by Mainul Islam, a passerby and food delivery worker, revealed the intense moments inside the 7-Eleven. The video showed officers aiming their weapons and issuing commands before firing multiple rounds. Prior to the gunshots, an attempt to subdue the suspect with a stun gun reportedly failed. The man’s erratic and dangerous behavior left officers with no choice but to act decisively.
Witnesses outside the store provided additional context. Andrew Cecil, who works nearby, saw the suspect swinging a knife and cornering an employee. Despite efforts to de-escalate the situation, including deploying a Taser, the suspect remained a threat.
This tragic event has led to dual investigations—one by the VPD into the stabbing and another by British Columbia’s Independent Investigations Office to review the officers' actions. The incident occurred just blocks from BC Place Stadium, a high-profile venue set to host Taylor Swift’s concerts later this week, highlighting the broader community impact.
