Vikings Pull Off Crucial Win Over Seahawks, Keep NFC Playoff Hopes Alive
In a thrilling NFC showdown, the Minnesota Vikings emerged victorious over the Seattle Seahawks, securing a 27-24 win at Lumen Field. This win keeps the Vikings firmly in the hunt for the top NFC seed, alongside the Detroit Lions, as both teams now sit at 13-2 with only two weeks left in the regular season.
The game was a high-flying spectacle, with both teams relying on their quarterbacks to lead explosive offenses. Sam Darnold, filling in admirably at the helm, had an impressive outing, completing 22 of 35 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns. He connected twice with superstar receiver Justin Jefferson, who finished the game with 10 catches for 144 yards and two scores, including the game-winning touchdown. Jordan Addison also contributed, scoring once early in the game.
Seattle’s Geno Smith responded with his own stellar performance, passing for over 250 yards and three touchdowns. DK Metcalf and rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba each found the end zone, and Smith's precision in the pocket kept the Seahawks in the game. However, it was Smith’s two critical interceptions that proved costly. The first occurred midway through the second quarter when he was under pressure from Vikings linebacker Josh Metellus. That pick, snatched by rookie Dallas Turner, set up a Minnesota field goal, giving them a lead they would never relinquish.

Despite the turnovers, Seattle fought back. The Seahawks erased a 10-point deficit in the second half and even took the lead late in the fourth quarter. Smith connected with tight end A.J. Barner for a spectacular touchdown to put the Seahawks ahead, but Minnesota quickly responded. With the game on the line, Darnold showed poise under pressure, connecting with Jefferson for a clutch touchdown that gave the Vikings the lead once again.
Seattle had two chances to tie the game in the final moments, but both attempts fell short. A 60-yard field goal by Jason Myers was no good, and a desperate final drive ended in yet another interception by Theo Jackson, sealing the victory for Minnesota.
The Vikings’ defense, while giving up yardage, made the critical plays when it mattered. Two interceptions, including one at the end of the game, were the difference-makers in this tightly contested battle. For Minnesota, it was about making one more play than their opponents, and that was evident as they capitalized on Seattle's mistakes while executing flawlessly in the clutch.
With the win, Minnesota improved to 13-2 and remained in second place in the NFC North, with an important showdown against the Packers next week before a potential NFC North title-deciding game against the Lions. Seattle, on the other hand, fell to 8-7, and their playoff hopes are in jeopardy as they now trail the Rams in the NFC West and the Commanders for the final wild card spot.
As both teams head into the final stretch of the regular season, the Vikings look to continue their dominance, while the Seahawks will need to regroup and fight for a playoff berth.
