Vince Shines Bright as Sixers Clinch Record BBL Chase at SCG
Sydney Cricket Ground witnessed an unforgettable Boxing Day clash as the Sydney Sixers, led by James Vince’s breathtaking century, secured a record-setting chase against the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League. Vince’s unbeaten 101 off just 58 balls not only clinched victory for the Sixers but also etched his name into the BBL history books, leaving the Stars winless after four games.
The match kicked off with Melbourne Stars putting up a formidable total of 194 for 9, powered by a dazzling knock from England’s Ben Duckett. Duckett lit up the SCG with his dynamic 68 off 29 balls, employing a blend of power and ingenuity. His innings included six boundaries in a single over off Akeal Hosein and a flurry of aggressive strokes against the Sixers' bowlers. At one stage, the Stars looked dominant, reaching 126 for 3 after just 10.2 overs. However, a late resurgence from Jackson Bird and Ben Dwarshuis ensured the Stars couldn’t fully capitalize on their electric start.

In response, the Sixers wasted no time. Openers Josh Philippe and James Vince raced to an 83-run partnership within eight overs. Vince then took control, showcasing a masterclass in power-hitting and precision. From blazing sixes off Glenn Maxwell and Tom Curran to slicing through the field with pinpoint accuracy, Vince was unstoppable. He reached his century in just 57 balls, becoming only the second player in Sixers history to achieve the milestone.
The Sixers chased down the target in a mere 18.1 overs with Jordan Silk providing the perfect foil for Vince in the latter stages. Together, they dismantled the Stars' bowling attack, taking 35 runs from their two power-surge overs to seal the game with 11 balls to spare.
This iconic match underscored the brilliance of James Vince and the resilience of the Sixers. While the Stars grapple with their form, the Sixers remain undefeated, firmly establishing themselves as the team to beat in this year’s BBL.
