Winter Break for Washoe County Schools: Dates and Important Information for Students and Staff
Winter break for students in the Washoe County School District is just around the corner, with families eagerly awaiting the much-needed break. Starting on December 19, students will enjoy time off, with the last day of class before winter break falling on Thursday, December 19. However, teachers will have a scheduled workday on December 20 to complete any remaining tasks. Winter break officially runs from December 23 through January 3, giving students and staff a solid two-week hiatus from school.
After the winter break, classes will resume on January 6, a day earlier than originally planned when the school year started. While the winter break provides a welcome pause, it’s important to note that there are additional days off throughout the school year. For instance, Martin Luther King Jr. Day falls on January 20, and President's Day on February 17, both of which are designated as no-school days. Spring break will be from March 17-28, offering students a break before the final stretch of the school year.

For students in Washoe County, the last day of school is slated for June 6, assuming there are no additional snow days or other emergencies. If unforeseen closures occur due to weather or emergencies, the district has built extra minutes into the school calendar to ensure they meet the state's required classroom hours. This means that even with snow days, students will not face an extended school year. However, teachers may still have to work on contingency days, with the last workday for staff scheduled for June 10. If additional closures arise, only teachers will be required to return to school on June 11 for make-up work.
It's also important to highlight that the district has canceled the upcoming February and March parent-teacher conferences for elementary schools and for the three Incline Village schools. This decision will allow schools to operate on a regular schedule during those weeks, without early releases for conferences.
