Amad Diallo Salvages a Point for Manchester United at Anfield in Thrilling Draw
Manchester United showed resilience in a pulsating encounter at Anfield, securing a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Premier League leaders Liverpool. The match, brimming with tension and drama, witnessed some impressive performances, particularly from Amad Diallo, who was instrumental in United’s equalizing goal.
For much of the game, United had to endure Liverpool’s attacking pressure, especially after a midweek loss to Newcastle that left them with a lot to prove. Coach Ruben Amorim made tactical adjustments, dropping key players like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to the bench and opting for Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo in midfield. This change seemed to inject new energy into United’s game, and while their defense was solid, they lacked quality in attack in the first half.
Liverpool dominated possession early on and created some excellent chances. The first real opportunity came when Cody Gakpo found himself with a chance to score, only to see his chip narrowly miss the target. Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch also had opportunities, but United’s goalkeeper André Onana was equal to their efforts, making crucial saves to keep his team in the game. Despite the home side’s dominance, United looked compact and ready to hit on the counter.

United’s best chances came from wide areas, with Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, and Rasmus Højlund creating space behind Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, Amad Diallo couldn’t capitalize on a golden opportunity in the first half, missing a header from close range that would have given United the lead. Moments later, Højlund had a chance of his own, but Alisson was quick to deny him.
The second half started with United pulling off a surprise. Seven minutes after the break, United broke the deadlock with an impressive strike from Lisandro MartÃnez. After receiving a pass from Fernandes, MartÃnez made a driving run into the Liverpool box and finished expertly, sending United fans into wild celebration. However, Liverpool quickly responded, with Gakpo equalizing just minutes later after a defensive error from Matthijs De Ligt.
De Ligt was at the center of controversy again when his raised arm blocked a header from Alexis Mac Allister, resulting in a penalty for Liverpool. Salah made no mistake from the spot, giving Liverpool the lead. But United’s response was full of fight and determination.
In the dying minutes, Fernandes set up Alejandro Garnacho, who delivered a perfect low cross into the box. Diallo, ever alert, was in the right place at the right time to slide in the equalizer from close range. With the score tied at 2-2, both teams had opportunities to claim all three points. Fernandes almost caught Alisson off guard with a shot at the near post, while Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Diogo Jota failed to capitalize on their own chances.
Though Manchester United’s wait for a win at Anfield continues, this result showed that the team has not lost its fighting spirit. Diallo’s goal and the resilience of the entire team were clear signs of progress. United may have left Liverpool with a point, but they demonstrated the qualities necessary to turn their fortunes around.
