Barcelona's Tactical Shake-up as They Face Getafe in La Liga Showdown
FC Barcelona is gearing up for a crucial La Liga clash against Getafe this weekend, with coach Hansi Flick set to implement a few changes in the starting lineup. The German manager is determined to put the recent struggles in the league behind them and get back to winning ways after a string of impressive performances in the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. Barcelona has been in fine form this year, securing victories over Real Madrid in the Super Cup final and Real Betis in the Copa del Rey, but their recent La Liga form has been inconsistent. They now find themselves trailing Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid in the title race, making this game against Getafe all the more important.
Barcelona has faced a tough challenge in La Liga, dropping points in six out of their last seven league matches in 2024. As a result, they’ve fallen from a comfortable position at the top of the table to third place, six points behind Atlético Madrid and five behind Real Madrid. Despite these struggles, Barcelona has shown glimpses of their true potential, particularly in their cup matches, and they will look to use that momentum to turn their fortunes around in the league.

Ahead of the Getafe match, Flick has made it clear that while the team has been effective in cup competitions, the La Liga challenges remain tough. The coach noted that scoring goals at Getafe's stadium, El Coliseum, is never easy. Barcelona only managed a 1-0 win against Getafe in their previous encounter in Montjuic, and Flick has already addressed the need for improved rhythm and goal-scoring in the team. The players are well aware that the upcoming match is pivotal in their bid to climb back up the table.
In terms of lineup changes, one of the key alterations will see Alejandro Balde return to the starting position at left-back, replacing Gerard Martin. Balde’s presence has been missed, and his return is expected to add more attacking intent to the left side. Another notable change is in goal, as Inaki Pena will continue to fill in for the suspended Wojciech Szczesny, following his solid performance in the 5-1 win over Real Betis. The defense will remain largely unchanged, with Jules Koundé starting at right-back, and Ronald Araujo and Pau Cubarsi forming the central defensive partnership.
The midfield duo of Marc Casado and Pedri will start again, with Casado continuing to prove his worth as a vital part of the team. Gavi will take up the attacking midfielder role, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal occupying the winger positions. Yamal, who has been in sensational form, is quickly becoming a player that many believe is among the best in the world at just 17 years old. Robert Lewandowski will spearhead the attack after being rested recently. His goalscoring prowess continues to be a key asset for Barcelona.
Barcelona's goal is clear: to regain their rhythm and put pressure on the top of the table. With a revamped lineup and a renewed focus on La Liga, they will be hoping for a positive result against Getafe to start their climb back up the standings.
