Bogalusa Mayor Tyrin Truong Arrested in Drug and Prostitution Sting
The town of Bogalusa, Louisiana, is in shock after the arrest of its mayor, Tyrin Truong, in a major drug trafficking and prostitution investigation. The 25-year-old, who became mayor in 2023, was taken into custody early Tuesday morning following a months-long investigation by Louisiana State Police. Officers were seen outside Truong's home in Bogalusa as the operation unfolded. Along with Truong, several others were arrested in connection with the operation. These individuals are now facing serious charges, including drug trafficking, solicitation of prostitutes, and possession of firearms obtained through illicit drug profits.
The investigation started in April 2024, when the Louisiana State Police Narcotics/Violent Crime Task Force discovered that a local drug trafficking organization was operating in the Bogalusa area. The criminal group allegedly used social media to distribute opioids, marijuana, THC products, and MDMA, while also using the profits to fund the purchase of firearms. Some of these firearms were linked to crimes in the area, and authorities say they were distributed to individuals who were not legally allowed to possess them.

Tyrin Truong faces several charges, including "transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses," "unauthorized use of a moveable," and "soliciting for prostitutes." The charge of "unauthorized use of a moveable" refers to taking someone else's personal property without consent. Along with Truong, others arrested in the investigation include individuals charged with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, as well as involvement in drug transactions and firearms offenses.
Truong's arrest has taken the public by surprise, especially given his political background. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Truong ran on a platform promising change and progress for the city, which has been in decline for years. At just 23 years old, he was elected mayor in 2022 with a message of bringing growth back to Bogalusa. His arrest casts a dark shadow on his short tenure as mayor.
As of now, Truong and the other suspects are being held in the Washington Parish jail while investigations continue. The authorities have made it clear that this is an ongoing investigation, and more arrests could follow. A press conference is scheduled to provide further details about the arrests and the case's developments.
