The fire has prompted evacuation warnings and orders for local residents. In El Cajon, evacuation centers have been set up at the Edwards Cinema parking lot and Southwestern College. Local authorities have also closed roads, including Alta Road, south of Otay Mesa Road, and Otay Lakes Road, from Wueste to Campo Road. Schools in the area are closed, including several from the Chula Vista Elementary School District, as a precautionary measure. The fire continues to burn near the Otay Mountain Truck Trail, an area known for its steep and challenging terrain.
A smoke advisory has been issued for Otay Mesa and surrounding regions, urging residents to stay indoors if possible, especially those with respiratory issues.
