Chelsea Completes January Exit as Zain Silcott-Duberry Joins Bournemouth
Chelsea has officially concluded its first transfer deal of the January window, with young winger Zain Silcott-Duberry making a permanent move to Premier League rivals Bournemouth. The 19-year-old, who joined Chelsea’s academy from Norwich City at just 13 years old, will now embark on a new journey at Bournemouth, where he hopes to secure regular first-team football.
Silcott-Duberry’s move to Bournemouth comes with no initial fee, though it includes performance-related add-ons and a sell-on clause, reflecting the potential for future value. The teenager has penned a three-year contract with the Cherries, a club that has already made two signings this January, reinforcing their squad with young defenders Julio Soler and Matai Akinmboni.

In a statement, Silcott-Duberry expressed his excitement about this new chapter. “I’m delighted. It’s a new journey for me, which is important. I’m a firm believer in being ambitious and being yourself, and exploring to have the best career, so here I am,” he said. He spoke about the impact of the club’s youth development, particularly how he sees young players making their debut, which fuels his own ambition. “There’s an opportunity to look in the mirror and say ‘this could be you, if you go for it and work for it’,” he added.
Silcott-Duberry’s time at Chelsea saw him progress through their academy ranks, making his debut for the Under-18 side while still a schoolboy. Although he played regularly for Chelsea’s U21 side as a right wing-back last season, he struggled to break into the first team. With Chelsea’s first-team squad brimming with talent on the wings, including players like Noni Madueke, Joao Felix, and Pedro Neto, his pathway to a starting spot was always going to be difficult.
Bournemouth, however, presents an exciting opportunity for Silcott-Duberry to gain valuable experience and compete for a place in the senior team. There, he will be up against other attackers such as Justin Kluivert, Antoine Semenyo, and Dango Ouattara, but he will be hoping that his skills can help him earn a regular spot in the squad.
His departure has sparked a reaction from his former Chelsea teammate, Tyrique George, who posted a supportive message with a simple heart emoji on Instagram. George, also a Chelsea academy graduate, has recently made his way into the first team, and while he has yet to make his Premier League debut, he’s been a regular feature in the Europa Conference League.
The departure of Silcott-Duberry marks the first permanent exit for Chelsea in January, but there could be more departures on the horizon. The club is reportedly in talks regarding the sale of other players, including Renato Veiga, who has been linked with Borussia Dortmund. With the transfer window still open, Chelsea fans can expect more movement in the coming days as the club continues to make decisions about its squad for the rest of the season.
