Conor McGregor Launches Heated Attack on Khabib Nurmagomedov and Rivalries
Conor McGregor has once again made headlines with a fiery and expletive-laden outburst on Twitter, calling out former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in what has quickly become another highly controversial moment in the Irish fighter's career. This time, McGregor reignited the rivalry between Ireland and Dagestan, referencing a past clash at UFC 229 that ended in a loss for him, while also dragging in some personal insults. The social media rant followed remarks made by MMA fighter Paul Hughes after his own loss to Usman Nurmagomedov in Dubai. Hughes had expressed respect for Nurmagomedov, stating that he was "not like this other guy," a comment that seemed to target McGregor directly.
In response to Hughes, McGregor posted a series of disturbing tweets, using offensive language that took aim at both Hughes and Khabib. In one tweet, McGregor referenced his fast victory over Jose Aldo at UFC 194, calling out Khabib’s family in a crude and graphic manner. His language quickly became more hostile, insulting not just Khabib, but Dagestan as a whole. He mocked the retirement of Nurmagomedov, calling him lazy and afraid, while offering a challenge that would reportedly see a massive payout for the entire Dagestani village should they choose to fight him.

McGregor’s tirade, which was later deleted, has sparked outrage across social media and has left many questioning his behavior. Nurmagomedov’s retirement from MMA, which followed a dominant 29-0 career and included his victory over McGregor, was respected by many, including his own fans in Dagestan. Yet McGregor’s comments only seem to stoke the flames of a rivalry that many thought had died down after Khabib walked away from the sport.
At the core of McGregor’s outburst is the idea of pride and loyalty to one's roots, a theme that’s been a part of his trash-talking persona throughout his career. His continued targeting of Khabib, despite the Russian’s retirement, shows a level of frustration and perhaps insecurity on McGregor’s part. As he continues to be sidelined by injuries, McGregor may be attempting to keep his name in the conversation, but this kind of behavior only adds to his already controversial public image.
Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov has stayed quiet about McGregor’s latest remarks. The undefeated champion has kept his focus on his family, religion, and his growing involvement in coaching and business. For McGregor, however, the insults continue, and it seems his bitterness towards Khabib and the Dagestani fighter's success remains unresolved.
It’s clear McGregor isn’t done with this rivalry, but whether the UFC ever sees another bout between the two remains highly uncertain. McGregor has not fought since his leg injury against Dustin Poirier in 2021, and his return to the octagon is yet to be confirmed. As McGregor continues to take aim at his rivals online, the question remains: will these words ever turn into action, or is it all just another phase of the chaotic persona that has become so synonymous with Conor McGregor’s career?
