Dave Franco Reacts to Luigi Mangione Comparisons: “I’ve Never Received More Texts”
Dave Franco is no stranger to being in the spotlight, but a recent wave of attention has caught him off guard. At the Sundance Film Festival, where he is promoting his latest horror project Together , the actor shared an unexpected reaction to the buzz surrounding him—specifically, the flood of comparisons to Luigi Mangione.
For context, Luigi Mangione has recently become a headline-grabbing figure, as he was allegedly involved in the tragic shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City. Mangione, who was later captured in Pennsylvania, has since been charged with murder. The public fascination with this case quickly turned into something more personal for Franco when social media users began drawing a striking resemblance between him and Mangione. The result? A surge of messages from friends, family, and even strangers pointing out the comparison.
Franco’s wife, Alison Brie, was quick to join the conversation when asked if anyone had reached out to the actor about the similarities. Her response was direct: "Anyone? Do you mean everyone?" Franco, laughing, confirmed that it was, indeed, a widespread reaction. "I have never received more texts in my life about anything," he said, adding that anyone who had his phone number had reached out.

While many might have been caught off guard by this unexpected comparison, Franco took it in stride. The actor acknowledged the media frenzy surrounding Mangione, noting that it wasn't just family and friends texting him. People from all walks of life were commenting on the uncanny resemblance. Even as some media outlets began joking about Franco playing Mangione in a future film, the actor made it clear that no official offers had been made, much to the amusement of his wife. "No official offers," he said with a laugh.
Despite the unexpected attention, Franco remains focused on his career. At Sundance, he is promoting Together , a supernatural thriller that co-stars Brie. The film follows a couple that moves to the countryside only to encounter an eerie force that challenges their relationship. Brie and Franco, who are married in real life, bring their authentic chemistry to the screen. They described how they could easily relate to their roles, considering their own experiences of intimacy in a long-term relationship.
As for the filming process, Franco admitted there were days when it was hard to keep up the energy. "We would get there at 6 a.m., and from the very first take, our energy had to be at one hundred percent," he shared. Despite the early mornings and long days, Franco found joy in working alongside his wife, joking that at times it felt like they were "getting away with something."
While Franco’s rise in popularity through the Mangione comparisons might have surprised him, his work at Sundance remains the focal point of his current journey. Regardless of how the internet might view him, he’s staying grounded and focused on the roles that truly matter to him. The comparisons to Mangione may be fleeting, but Together will likely have a lasting impact on his career.
