Stéphane Venne, the celebrated author and composer who defined an era of Québécois music, has passed away at the age of 83. Known for crafting songs that resonated deeply across generations, his work encapsulated the spirit of the Quiet Revolution and the cultural awakening of Quebec. With over 400 songs to his name, Venne's artistry continues to echo in the hearts of many.

Born in 1941 in Verdun, Venne began composing in the late 1950s, finding his true stride after his collaboration with the iconic Renée Claude. Together, they gave life to timeless pieces like Le début d’un temps nouveau in 1968—a hymn of transformation and youthful exuberance that embodied the optimism of Expo 67 and the Summer of Love. His compositions with Isabelle Pierre and Emmanuelle, including classics like Le temps est bon and Et c’est pas fini , cemented his reputation as a trailblazer in Canadian popular music.
