FireAid Concert Brings Stars Together to Aid LA Wildfire Victims
The FireAid benefit concert, held to raise funds for victims of the recent Los Angeles wildfires, delivered an unforgettable night of musical brilliance and raw emotion. As the evening unfolded, it became clear that this was no ordinary charity gig. The event, designed to show solidarity with those affected by the wildfires, featured a dazzling lineup of artists across two major LA venues—the Kia Forum and the Intuit Dome.
The concert kicked off with Billie Eilish and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, who performed "Last Night on Earth" with haunting precision, its lyrics especially poignant in light of the devastation caused by the fires. With 50,000 acres scorched, 29 lives lost, and over 10,000 homes and businesses destroyed, the song resonated deeply with the audience.

The star-studded night also boasted performances by Joni Mitchell, Rod Stewart, Pink, Stevie Nicks, and Earth, Wind & Fire, but the surprise of the evening came from a Nirvana reunion that left the crowd awestruck. With Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear joined by a quartet of talented female vocalists—St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, Joan Jett, and Violet Grohl (Dave’s daughter)—they took over the iconic Kurt Cobain vocals on tracks like "Breed" and "All Apologies." The reunion’s energy was infectious, rekindling the raw power of Nirvana’s music in a way that felt both fierce and heartfelt.
Throughout the event, emotional tributes poured in, particularly from survivors and first responders. One standout moment was when actor Billy Crystal took the stage wearing the same clothes he fled his home in when the fires began. Despite his personal loss, he lightened the mood with humor, sharing that the only possession his family found in the ashes was a rock inscribed with the word “laughter.”
Other unforgettable moments included Joni Mitchell’s vulnerable rendition of "Both Sides Now" and the fiery funk of Anderson .Paak, joined by Dr. Dre and Sheila E. The night was a rollercoaster of energy, blending poignant moments with high-octane performances that honored both the spirit of Los Angeles and the artists who have made it a cultural hub.
The night’s finale came with Lady Gaga, who delivered a powerful performance of "Shallow," and a touching new song titled "All I Need is Time." Her emotive stage presence, channeling the likes of Freddie Mercury, brought the concert to an emotional crescendo. Yet, it was the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ rendition of "Under the Bridge" that truly encapsulated the essence of the night—an anthem of love and loss for a city that has faced unimaginable hardships.
FireAid was not just a concert, but a testament to the resilience of Los Angeles, its people, and the power of music to heal and unite. It reminded us all that even in the face of disaster, hope, strength, and solidarity can rise from the ashes.
