Ford Issues Recall for Over 270,000 Vehicles Due to Battery Failure Risks
Ford Motor Co. has issued a recall affecting 272,817 vehicles across the United States, following concerns about a potential battery issue in certain models. This recall impacts select 2021-2023 Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles, manufactured between February 5, 2020, and October 20, 2022. The problem centers around the 12-volt battery, which may degrade over time and fail suddenly. Such a failure could lead to a loss of essential electrical systems, such as hazard lights, and in more severe cases, a complete loss of drive power. This creates a serious risk of accidents, as drivers may not be able to maintain control of the vehicle or signal to others during a breakdown.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a statement, noting that these failures could result in dangerous situations for both drivers and other road users. Ford has responded to this safety concern by offering a free inspection and replacement of the faulty batteries at authorized dealerships. This recall comes at a time when automakers are under increasing pressure to maintain safety standards and address issues in a timely manner.
The issue, although limited to around 1% of the affected vehicles, raises concerns about how widespread problems could be in other models or even future Ford productions. It’s important for owners of these vehicles to stay alert and check whether their cars are part of the recall by visiting the NHTSA website or contacting their local Ford dealer. In some instances, Ford may even offer loaner vehicles to affected customers while their cars undergo necessary repairs.
Consumers who have already paid to repair this specific issue may be eligible for a refund, further illustrating Ford’s commitment to resolving the problem quickly and efficiently. Ford is also under scrutiny for its slower pace in addressing this issue, which has led to a fine of up to $165 million from the U.S. government. As the situation unfolds, it’s critical for owners of the affected vehicles to act swiftly to ensure their safety and avoid potential hazards on the road.
