Katie Boulter Breaks British Record with Historic Australian Open Win
Katie Boulter has made history at the 2025 Australian Open with a remarkable first-round victory that not only secured her spot in the second round but also set a new British record for the most first-round singles wins by British players in the Open era. Boulter, seeded 22nd, fought off a tough challenge from Canada's Rebecca Marino, triumphing 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in a match that was anything but straightforward.
The victory marks a significant milestone for Boulter, as she becomes the sixth British player to win their opening match at this year’s Australian Open, a record for the nation. "I’m happy I found a way to win," Boulter said after the match, reflecting on the mental challenge she faced.
