King Charles Expresses Deep Sadness Over Edward Pettifer's Tragic Death
King Charles has conveyed his profound sorrow following the tragic death of Edward Pettifer, a 31-year-old British national killed in the devastating New Orleans attack on New Year’s Day. Mr. Pettifer, among 14 victims of the horrific event, was stepson to Alexandra Pettifer, affectionately known as Tiggy, who served as a beloved nanny to Princes William and Harry during their formative years.
This unimaginable tragedy unfolded when Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran, drove a truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans’ vibrant French Quarter, leaving destruction in his wake. Jabbar, who the FBI confirmed acted alone, carried out what they have described as a “premeditated and evil act,” inspired by the Islamic State group. Alongside the fatalities, 39 individuals were injured, with many still hospitalized, some in critical condition.

Edward Pettifer was described by his grieving family as a "wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend to many." In a heartfelt statement, they shared their devastation and extended condolences to others affected by the attack, requesting privacy as they mourn their loss. The coroner attributed Mr. Pettifer’s death to blunt force injuries, highlighting the harrowing nature of the incident.
King Charles, upon hearing of Mr. Pettifer’s death, personally reached out to his family, expressing deep sadness and offering his condolences. Prince William has also been informed, while Prince Harry has chosen not to comment publicly. The connection to Tiggy Legge-Bourke underscores the intertwined relationships within the royal circle, as Tiggy played a pivotal role in the lives of the young princes, especially during the challenging period following Princess Diana’s passing.
The suspect, Jabbar, who was fatally shot by police after the attack, had also planted explosive devices, though they fortunately failed to detonate. Authorities revealed that he had been planning the attack for weeks, further adding to the heartbreak and disbelief surrounding this senseless act of terror.
This tragedy resonates deeply, not only as an attack on innocent lives but also as a stark reminder of the enduring challenges posed by terrorism. As the world mourns Edward Pettifer and the other victims, tributes pour in, highlighting their legacies and the enduring impact of their loss.
