Mainoo Shines as Manchester United Secure 2-0 Victory Over FCSB
Manchester United have done it again! A solid 2-0 win over FCSB in the Europa League, and the young star Kobbie Mainoo was at the heart of it all. Ruben Amorim’s side delivered when it mattered, sealing their spot in the last 16 and avoiding the extra play-off round in February. Let’s break it down.
The first half? Pretty uneventful, to be honest. United struggled to break down a well-organized FCSB defense, and there wasn’t much to get excited about. A couple of half-chances here and there, but nothing that really troubled the scoreboard. Amorim clearly saw the need for a change, and at halftime, he brought on Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho—two players who would go on to make a real difference.
Just over a minute into the second half, Garnacho nearly put United ahead, hitting the post after a defensive mix-up. That was the warning sign. The breakthrough came in the 60th minute, and guess who was involved? Mainoo. The 19-year-old midfielder played a smart low pass across goal, finding an unmarked Diogo Dalot at the back post. Simple tap-in. United 1-0 up.

Eight minutes later, Mainoo got his own moment of glory. Garnacho did brilliantly down the left, cutting the ball back into the box, and Mainoo—cool as you like—slotted it home with a controlled finish. His first goal of the season, and what a time to get it!
United looked in control from there. Bruno Fernandes struck the crossbar, and Casemiro made his return from injury with a late substitute appearance. FCSB had their moments, hitting the bar themselves through Daniel Birligea, but United never looked in serious trouble.
With this win, United finish third in the Europa League’s new league phase, meaning they skip the extra knockout round. That’s huge. Now, they wait to see who they’ll face in the last 16—potentially Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, AZ Alkmaar, or FC Midtjylland.
The real star of the night? No doubt, Kobbie Mainoo. A goal, an assist, and a performance that proves he’s becoming a key player in this team. At just 19, his future looks incredibly bright.
Manchester United keep their European dreams alive. On to the next round!
