Neymar’s Al-Hilal Journey Ends, Sparks Return to Santos

Big news in the football world as Neymar’s time at Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal comes to an unexpected early end. The Brazilian superstar has mutually agreed to terminate his contract with the club, just seven months before it was set to expire. After joining Al-Hilal in August 2023 for a staggering €90 million, Neymar's stint was plagued by injuries, limiting him to only seven appearances. Now, with his contract terminated, all signs point to a return to his boyhood club, Santos, in Brazil.

Neymar had signed a two-year deal with Al-Hilal, reportedly earning €150 million annually. The move to Saudi Arabia was framed as a new chapter in his career, where he aimed to make history. However, his ambitions were derailed by a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October 2023. Despite his return to training in late 2024, he managed just two appearances this season before Al-Hilal and Neymar opted to part ways.

Al-Hilal expressed gratitude for Neymar’s contributions, but the 32-year-old’s focus now seems to be on reviving his career back in Brazil. A return to Santos would be a sentimental homecoming for Neymar, who began his career there, scoring 136 goals in 225 games before his high-profile transfer to Barcelona in 2013. While personal terms with Santos are reportedly being finalized, Neymar could be flying back to his homeland within days.

Interestingly, Neymar’s exit may also impact Liverpool, as Al-Hilal is rumored to be eyeing Mohamed Salah as a potential replacement. If this materializes, it could trigger a major transfer domino effect.

Despite setbacks, Neymar remains Brazil’s all-time leading male scorer and one of the most iconic figures in football. His return to Santos could reignite his career while offering fans a nostalgic trip back to where it all began.
