PAK vs WI 2nd Test: Spinners Shine as West Indies Struggle in Multan

The second Test between Pakistan and West Indies in Multan kicked off in dramatic fashion as West Indies opted to bat first after winning the toss. With clear skies and a brittle surface at the Multan Cricket Stadium, skipper Kraigg Brathwaite made the bold choice, hoping his team could handle Pakistan’s spin-heavy attack. However, it quickly became apparent that the decision might backfire.

West Indies handed a Test debut to wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo, following his ODI debut in December, while seasoned pacer Kemar Roach returned to the lineup, replacing the injured Jayden Seales. On Pakistan's side, fast-bowler Kashif Ali made his maiden Test appearance, replacing Khurram Shahzad. Kashif, known for his impressive performances in first-class cricket, joined a lineup dominated by spinners, including Sajid Khan, Noman Ali, and Abrar Ahmed.

The first session of the day belonged to Pakistan's bowlers. Noman Ali proved lethal on the spinning track, picking up four wickets and leaving West Indies in tatters at 46 for 7 within just 13.5 overs. Sajid Khan and debutant Kashif Ali also chipped in, exploiting the conditions to perfection. Kraigg Brathwaite, Mikyle Louis, and Amir Jangoo fell cheaply, as the visitors struggled to handle the spin onslaught. Only Kavem Hodge managed a semblance of resistance, remaining unbeaten at 19 by the lunch break.

Pakistan’s lineup remained unchanged aside from Kashif’s inclusion. Shan Masood, leading the side, opened alongside Muhammad Huraira, while batting mainstays Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, and Mohammad Rizwan provided stability in the middle order.

With Pakistan already 1-0 up in the series, this game offers a golden opportunity to secure back-to-back home series wins for the first time in nearly four years. However, for West Indies, the challenge remains immense. On a spin-friendly surface and against a confident Pakistan side, their ability to adapt and fight back will be crucial in determining whether they can salvage the series.

Stay tuned as the action continues to unfold in Multan!
