The Boilermakers, who had been riding high on a seven-game win streak, looked poised for another victory after building a 13-point lead by halftime. Trey Kaufman-Renn, who finished with a game-high 26 points, continued to deliver clutch baskets, but it wasn’t enough. Despite forcing 18 turnovers, Purdue struggled from beyond the three-point line, making only three out of ten attempts compared to Ohio State's 11 of 23.
Braden Smith, who had been a key player in previous games, was sidelined in the first half due to foul trouble. He played just 10 minutes before halftime and finished the game with 11 points and eight assists. Fletcher Loyer, who had been hot for Purdue recently, struggled to find his shot in the second half but managed to contribute 16 points.
Ohio State’s comeback was made possible by solid performances from Devin Royal (16 points) and Bruce Thornton (11 points). The Buckeyes had been on a three-game losing streak before this victory, and the win against Purdue marks a significant turnaround. They overcame a slow start and found success with their three-point shooting, particularly in the second half.
The loss ended Purdue's 26-game home winning streak and dropped their record to 15-5 overall and 7-2 in Big Ten play. Purdue will look to bounce back on Friday when they host Michigan.
