Remembering Kenneth (Ken) Beck: A Life Filled with Love, Laughter, and Music
It is with deep sorrow that we remember Kenneth (Ken) Beck, who peacefully passed away on January 26, 2025, at his residence in Hogarth Riverview Manor. Ken had been battling dementia for some time, and though the illness affected his health, it never dulled his spirit or his love for music, sweets, and laughter. In his final years, Ken’s passion for bringing joy to others shone brightly. He became a beloved member of his community on the 4N floor, where he uplifted the spirits of his fellow residents. His enthusiasm for decorating for the holidays and gifting Valentine’s cards, Easter novelties, and Christmas presents became his signature way of spreading cheer.
Ken's journey began in Fort William in 1947, where he was born to Frank and Ethel (nee Crosby) Beck. Growing up as an only child, he attended Franklin St School and Fort William Collegiate. In 1972, Ken married his childhood sweetheart, Jenny (Jennifer) Sharpe, and together they had two children, Jason and Heather. Later, Ken found love again with Judy Harmer, and the two formed a strong bond with her children, Ryan and Dana, whom Ken embraced as his own. Even after Judy's passing, Ken reconnected with his first wife, Jenny, and they shared a beautiful friendship that lasted the remainder of his life.

Ken’s career began in the Shebandowan Mine, where he worked in the lab. He later transitioned to Macmillan Bloedel in Rosslyn Village, where he trained as an accountant and eventually earned his CPA designation. His career continued with Revenue Canada, where he worked his way up to the position of audit manager. Throughout his career, Ken was known for his dedication and work ethic, but it was his loving nature and commitment to his family that defined him.
As dementia began to take its toll, Ken’s children, Heather and Jason, were constant sources of support. Both were with him during his final moments at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre, where he also shared a final phone conversation with his grandson, Peyton. Ken’s last wish was to return home to Hogarth, where his friends and the compassionate staff made his final days as comfortable as possible. We owe a deep debt of gratitude to the emergency staff and EMS team, who respected his wishes and ensured he was able to pass peacefully, surrounded by the care he deserved.
Ken’s memory lives on in his children, grandchildren, and dear friends. He is survived by his children Jason (Arin), Heather (Trevor), Dana (David), Ryan (Karen), and his former daughter-in-law Marlene Ross (Andy). He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, including Nicholas, Kenzie, Peyton, Rhiannon, Ariel, Aurora, Zackary, Elliott, and Theo, as well as his cherished friend, Jenny Sharpe. Ken was predeceased by his parents, his wife Judy, and his beloved cousin Faye.
In honor of Ken’s life, a celebration of his memory will take place in the late spring or early summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Ken’s favorite charities: the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. As we remember Ken, we are encouraged to spread kindness, laugh often, and create memories that last a lifetime.
