Ruby Franke's Alleged Relationship Sparks Public Intrigue
Ruby Franke, once a prominent family vlogger behind the “8 Passengers” YouTube channel, has found herself at the center of controversy again, but this time, it isn’t just about her parenting or legal issues. A new memoir by her eldest daughter, Shari Franke, titled The House of My Mother: A Daughter’s Quest for Freedom , has cast fresh light on Ruby’s personal life, particularly her relationship with Jodi Hildebrandt, her business partner and co-defendant in child abuse charges.

Shari, now 21, alleges in her book that her mother was “sneaking around” with Hildebrandt in what she describes as a secretive and intimate bond. According to Shari, Hildebrandt moved into the family home, taking over her bedroom, and even made the upstairs of the house off-limits to Ruby’s then-husband, Kevin Franke. Shari recounts walking into her former room during their absence to find it transformed, resembling a “honeymoon suite” with candles, massage oils, and a lingering scent of lavender and vanilla.
The book paints a picture of a relationship that was as perplexing as it was controversial. Shari describes early morning sightings of her mother leaving the bedroom, hair messy, cheeks flushed, and robe hastily tied, with a mischievous look on her face. This intimate connection stood in stark contrast to Ruby and Hildebrandt’s public condemnation of queerness, making the private reality all the more jarring.
Both Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt are currently serving prison sentences for child abuse, following their arrests in 2023. Their actions sparked public outrage after Ruby’s 12-year-old son sought help from neighbors, exposing years of alleged neglect and harm. While Kevin Franke, Ruby’s ex-husband, has not been charged, Shari claims his inaction during critical moments of the family’s turmoil contributed to her struggles.
Shari’s memoir also reveals her efforts to navigate forgiveness and reclaim her life after years of trauma.
